Yobe State University has successfully invented a 2000W solar-powered generator, a development the institution’s Head of Information and Public Relations, Alhaji Adamu Saleh, confirmed on Wednesday in Damaturu.
Saleh said the device was manufactured by the Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer Office (IPTTO) of the university, highlighting the office’s role in fostering innovation and technological advancement.
He explained that the generator comes with a 75Amp battery capacity, a 20Amp charge controller, a 200W solar panel, and a 450W load capacity, making it suitable for various institutional and domestic applications.
The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Maimuna Waziri, officially disclosed the innovation during a sensitisation and awareness campaign on the activities of IPTTO.
Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Mohammed Yakubu, Waziri described the invention as a significant milestone for the university, noting its potential to boost the institution’s technological profile and contribute to sustainable energy solutions in the region.
Saleh praised the IPTTO team for its creativity, commitment, and technical skill, saying the achievement reflects not only the university’s growing research capacity but also serves as a source of pride for Yobe State and Nigeria as a whole.
According to Saleh, the generator is designed to offer a reliable alternative energy source, which could help mitigate challenges associated with electricity supply in the region.
He also emphasized that the project aligns with broader national efforts to promote renewable energy, innovation, and technology-driven solutions in Nigerian universities and communities.
Waziri, through her representative, expressed optimism that the invention would encourage students, researchers, and faculty to pursue more innovative projects that address local and national energy needs.
The development of the 2000W solar-powered generator underscores Yobe State University’s commitment to research, intellectual property development, and practical technological solutions capable of supporting sustainable growth in education, industry, and the wider society.
Saleh concluded by reiterating that the innovation demonstrates the institution’s capacity to translate research into practical solutions, further establishing Yobe State University as a hub for technological excellence in the country.
