President Bola Tinubu has pledged to extend the Federal Capital Territory Administration’s ongoing clean water programme to all area councils in the FCT after inaugurating the newly completed Bwari Water Supply Network on Tuesday.
Tinubu, represented by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, said the project fulfils his administration’s commitment under the Renewed Hope Agenda and will provide treated water to residents of Bwari, Ushafa and neighbouring communities that have long depended on untreated boreholes and streams.
The President said the newly inaugurated 198-kilometre water pipeline network connects Bwari Township and surrounding communities to the treated water supply from the Lower Usuma Dam, improving access to safe drinking water and reducing the risk of waterborne diseases.
“As we mark our third anniversary in office, we are here today to celebrate the fulfillment of that promise right here in Bwari. Water is life. Clean water is dignity; it is a fundamental right, not a luxury and today, we are inaugurating this massive, state-of-the-art 198-kilometre water pipeline network.”
“By linking Bwari township and its environs directly to our major treated water source at the Lower Usuma Dam, we are ending waterborne diseases and the constant, expensive digging of individual boreholes. Last year, it was the Lower Usuma Dam Phase II rehabilitation; last month, it was the Karu Water Network; today it is Bwari.”
“I assure you, by the grace of God, before our tenure is through, this water revolution will fully cover Kuje, Kwali, Gwagwalada, and Abaji,” he said.
Tinubu commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for driving infrastructure development across the territory, saying his fiscal discipline and commitment have advanced the implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda through investments in roads, housing and water projects.
Earlier, Wike said the Bwari Water Supply Network was inaugurated in line with Tinubu’s directive to expand potable water services to satellite towns following the commissioning of the Greater Abuja Water Project in 2025. He noted that the Karu Water Supply Network was commissioned on June 29 before the inauguration of the Bwari project.
“Let people know that we’re not only concentrating on roads; we’re also making sure other sectors are being touched,” the minister said.
The Bwari Water Supply Network is the latest in a series of water infrastructure projects undertaken by the FCT Administration to improve access to clean water in satellite communities, with the government pledging to extend similar projects to Kuje, Kwali, Gwagwalada and Abaji before the end of the current administration.
