South African powerline affected by heavy rainfall

By Bisola Adeyemo

Heavy rainfall has affected the electricity powerline in KwaZulu-Natal, a coastal South African province.

Power utility Eskom disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, after rain caused a very high voltage of electricity.

According to the statement, the utility company said that, although there was enough generation capacity, the high capacity of electricity usage was causing the overloading of networks, resulting in equipment failure and power loss.

While apologising to affected residents, Eskom said power will be restored as quickly as possible.

“Eskom apologises for any inconvenience caused and reminds those affected by the loss of supply to treat all electrical installations as live and dangerous, as electricity supply may be switched on without notice,” news24 reports.

However, Eskom warned that customers may experience delays due to high volumes.
