SOStainability partners UK university to boost renewable energy

SOStainability has partnered with the University of Staffordshire, United Kingdom, to develop a digital dashboard aimed at promoting renewable energy adoption and advancing net‑zero targets for businesses, charities, public institutions, and households.

The initiative is supported through the Advanced and Digital Technologies Innovation Accelerator (ADTIA) programme, funded by the Newcastle‑under‑Lyme Borough Council via the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

The dashboard is designed as a comprehensive platform that showcases renewable energy technologies and energy efficiency solutions, including solar, wind, battery storage, electric vehicle chargers, lighting, ventilation, heating, refrigeration, and compression systems.

It also provides users with information on financial incentives, public sector grants, soft loans, industry facilitation programmes, private sector discounts, and power purchase agreements to help organisations and households adopt sustainable energy practices.

Beyond listing solutions, the application is intended to facilitate ongoing connections between energy service providers and users, allowing beneficiaries to measure progress, record outcomes, and achieve net‑zero objectives in a structured manner.

Oke Epia, Chief Executive of SOStainability, described the dashboard as a crucial tool to guide businesses, communities, and households in planning and implementing decarbonisation strategies and improving energy efficiency.

He noted that the technology would provide a structured and standardised approach to energy management, reducing costs while enabling long‑term sustainability.

The partnership comes amid growing concerns about environmental degradation in Nigeria, including the rapid loss of forests, which has reduced the country’s original forest cover by over 90 percent and released large amounts of carbon into the atmosphere.

Experts warn that deforestation threatens biodiversity, disrupts rainfall patterns, intensifies droughts and floods, and undermines rural livelihoods, highlighting the need for sustainable energy and land‑use solutions.

In addition, the lack of transparency in Nigeria’s agrochemical sector has raised concerns about sustainability, with many companies failing to publish measurable targets, policies, or reports on environmental responsibility.

The dashboard initiative aims to address part of this sustainability gap by enabling organisations to make data‑driven decisions, adopt renewable energy technologies, and contribute to broader environmental and climate goals.

SOStainability expects the platform to create significant opportunities for energy efficiency improvements, cost savings, and net‑zero progress, positioning technology as a critical enabler for sustainable development in Nigeria and beyond.
