Solar Filter Company Provides Potable Water To 250 Households in Kenya

By Faridat Salifu

INNO-Neat Energy Solutions, a Solar water filter company is making significant impact in helping Kenya achieve Sustainable Development Goal (SDGs) 6, which provides for access to clean water for all.

This is as the business created “SafiSolar,” a solar water filter that can purify water and potentially supply about 250 homes.

The “SafiSolar” solar water filter was developed by INNO-Neat Energy Solutions specifically for use in rural regions.

According to Godfrey Katiambo, the Founder and CEO of the Kenyan start-up, the construction of water projects and the unequal distribution of resources contributed to the severe water shortages that impoverished rural populations are experiencing.

Katiambo said the company plans to make surface water drinkable in Kenya so as to significantly reduce the imbalance in the country’s drinking water supply.

“To be more precise, the INNO-Neat Energy Solutions water filter purges the water of impurities like heavy metals, bacteria, and viruses.

“Our solution requires only a one-time investment and offers a sustainable, cost-effective, and easy-to-maintain approach, unlike traditional methods such as boiling water or using chlorine tablets.

“In order to mitigate the issue of power outages, the facility is powered by solar energy. Each water filter provides service to about 250 houses.

“With women’s groups in western Kenya, INNO-NEAT has already created and implemented three “SafiSolar” prototypes with success. Each installation provides about 250 families with an average of 5 m3 of drinking water per day”, he said.

Founded in 2022, the company’s inventiveness has also earned it a spot among the top 10 finalists in the 2023 Ecosystem Restoration Africa initiative.
