Senate order works minister to fix federal roads

The Senate has urged the minister of works and housing with immediate effect to address the deplorable condition of federal roads in Ekiti state and other parts of the country.
The Senate concurred to the resolution on Wednesday in Abuja, in regards to the motion point of order raised by Sen.Olubunmi Ayodeji Adetumbi, representing Ekiti North Senatorial District on the poor condition of federal roads in Ekiti state.
Sen. Adetumbi, stated that the bad roads have put the state in dilapidated condition, affecting the businesses and economy status of Ekiti.
Speaking also, Sen. Jibrin Isah representing Kogi East Senatorial District, lamented that Kogi state has automatically cut off from the federal capital due bad roads, seeking for quick intervention by the federal government.
In addition, Senator Philip Tenimu Aduda (FCT), Minority Chief Whip, reacted that Nigeria has bitumen and other raw materials that can be used in fixing the whole federal roads across, further urged the Senate to look into it.
The Senate further resolved to by adding other resolutions in fixing the federal roads in Ekiti state and others part of the Federation, which as follows;
“Urge the ministry of works and housing to review the design and quality of federal roads in Nigeria by taking consideration of the subject matter of the motion.
” Urge the federal government to develop the bitumen and other raw materials for the roads construction in Nigeria.
” Urge the state governments to be involved in directing inter-state roads repair in their respective states in collaboration with the federal ministry of works and housing.
“Urge the federal government to explore the possibilities of public, private partnership (PPP) in the road construction”.
