Russia-Ukraine War Live: US Votes Against UN Resolution Condemning Invasion

Russia has welcomed the Unites States’s “balanced position” after Washington voted with Moscow at the United Nations General Assembly to avoid condemnation of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Separately, the UN Security Council has backed a US government resolution calling for an end to the war in Ukraine, without mentioning Russia as the aggressor.

Ukrainians continue to resist the onslaught of the Russian army, but the war has inevitably entered a grinding phase in which every territorial gain comes at an enormous cost, testing Ukraine’s endurance and the West’s willingness to maintain support.

For Ukraine, the fundamental issue is not whether diplomacy should be pursued – most wars eventually end at the negotiating table – but what terms those negotiations will involve.

If the priority is simply to stop the fighting as quickly as possible, there is a risk of Ukraine being pressured into accepting a settlement that does not address its long-term security concerns and that temporarily freezes the war rather than putting an end to it.

Russia says it welcomes ‘more balanced’ US stance on Ukraine
The Kremlin has said it welcomed the shift in Washington’s stance over the war in Ukraine after the UN Security Council vote.

Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia saw the move as evidence of the US’s genuine willingness to try to find a peaceful settlement.

“The US is taking a much more balanced position which is really aimed at trying to resolve the Ukraine conflict. We welcome this,” Peskov told reporters.
