Open defecation: Lagos residents urge govt to build toilets in Obalende motor park
By Bisola Adeyemo
Lagos State residents have appealed to the state government to urgently build mega public toilets in Obalende motor parks to curtail open defecation by travelers and passersby.
The residents who made the all on Friday, also called on the governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to urgently rebuild the Obalende Motor Parks and save the vicinity from environmental nuisances as well as curb daily traffic gridlock in the area.
Recalled that the Obalende motor park was demolished during the regime of former Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwumi Ambode.
Speaking with journalists at the motor pack, Mr. Amos Adoghe, a resident, lamented that the lack of public toilets in the moto packs for the past five years has increased the level of open defecation by travelers, making the environment unfit for humans.
“We are appealing to Governor Sanwo-Olu to come to our rescue and restore the lost glory of Ikoyi-Obalende which was the former Federal Capital of Nigeria before it was moved to Abuja by rebuilding the Obalende Motor parks and public toilets to stop the loading of buses and cabs along the road and open defecation in the area.
“I commend the branch Chairmen of the Ikoyi-Obalende National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW for always mobilizing their members to direct traffic in the area especially at the P&T roundabout to ease the traffic in the area to enable motorists to get to their place of work on time. I urge them not to relent.” another resident, Mr. Olatunji Dare, said.
