One Acre Fund Nigeria has commenced the distribution of agricultural inputs to 88,000 smallholder farmers across Nasarawa, Niger, Kwara and Plateau states as part of its 2026 farming support programme.
The distribution programme was officially flagged off on Friday in Abioga community, Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, ahead of the 2026 rainy season farming period.
The organisation said the initiative would provide 9,000 metric tonnes of inputs, including fertilisers, seeds and protective equipment, to farmers enrolled in its credit scheme.
Speaking during the ceremony, the Trees Lead for One Acre Fund Nigeria, Zainab Haruna, explained that the programme was aimed at improving farmers’ yields and easing access to farming inputs and training.
Haruna stated that beneficiaries could access the inputs through a flexible repayment arrangement, allowing them to pay back over five to six months after making a small initial commitment.
She noted that the programme also provides training for farmers to improve productivity and ensure better harvests.
The Communications Specialist for One Acre Fund Nigeria, Kazi Nanyah, said the intervention was designed to tackle challenges confronting smallholder farmers, including rising input costs, poor access to agricultural finance and inefficient distribution systems.
According to him, the initiative represents a practical approach to reducing constraints that continue to affect food production and rural livelihoods in Nigeria.
The event was attended by government officials, development partners, community leaders, security agencies, farmer representatives and members of the organisation’s leadership team, with discussions centred on agricultural innovation, soil health, tree planting and farmer resilience.
