Oman is set to expand its certified organic farming sector by increasing cultivated land from four hectares to more than 40 hectares as part of efforts to strengthen food security and promote sustainable agricultural development.
The planned expansion will boost domestic production of certified organic crops to meet rising consumer demand for locally grown, high-quality food while advancing the country’s long-term sustainability goals.
The farm, currently Oman’s only internationally certified organic agricultural operation, produces more than 40 varieties of organic crops. Its harvest supplies hotels, retail outlets and consumers through direct sales.
Authorities said the expansion forms part of a broader strategy to encourage innovative agricultural investments capable of serving both local and regional markets.
The initiative is also aimed at building a more resilient food production system through sustainable farming practices and increased value-added agricultural output.
Officials said expanding organic cultivation will improve local food availability, reduce dependence on imported produce and promote environmentally friendly farming methods, while supporting the efficient use of natural resources.
The investment is expected to further strengthen Oman’s agricultural sector as the country continues to adopt modern farming technologies and sustainable production practices, positioning it as an emerging regional centre for certified organic farming.
