Olam Agri has identified climate-smart agriculture and stronger farmer resilience as critical to achieving long-term food security across Africa, urging greater investment in sustainable farming practices and agricultural innovation.
The agribusiness company said African agriculture must become more resilient to climate change through the adoption of regenerative farming, drought-tolerant crop varieties and sustainable natural resource management.
Speaking on the company’s strategy for Africa, Olam Agri’s Country Head for Nigeria, Anil Nair, said improving farmers’ resilience is essential to increasing productivity and ensuring stable food supplies as climate-related challenges intensify.
He noted that the company is investing in farmer training, knowledge-sharing and innovation to help producers adapt to changing weather patterns and evolving market demands.
According to Nair, Olam Agri also supports more than 300,000 farmers by improving access to markets, enabling them to connect with domestic and international buyers while strengthening agricultural value chains.
He stressed that sustainable food systems require collaboration among governments, development partners, research institutions and the private sector to scale climate-smart technologies and improve agricultural productivity.
Nair added that Olam Agri will continue expanding initiatives that promote local processing, strengthen food value chains and improve access to affordable food, while supporting environmental sustainability and rural livelihoods across the continent.
