The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has elevated 44 senior staff to director and deputy director levels as part of efforts to reinforce its leadership structure and improve service delivery.
The Director-General of NIMASA, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, confirmed the promotion to newsmen on Sunday, saying the exercise followed a rigorous evaluation process conducted by the agency’s management and the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy.
Mobereola said the newly promoted officers include three substantive directors who will now head key departments, while 15 deputy directors and 26 assistant directors have been moved up in line with civil service procedures.
He explained that the decision was aimed at rewarding hard work, boosting staff morale, and preparing the agency to meet growing demands in maritime safety, security, and environmental regulation.
The development is expected to improve NIMASA’s operational efficiency by strengthening decision-making at top management level, enhancing regulatory oversight in Nigeria’s maritime sector, and aligning the agency more closely with government initiatives such as the Deep Blue Project and Cabotage enforcement.
Industry stakeholders say the move could also send a positive signal to the marine industry, showing that the agency is committed to transparency and capacity building, which may attract greater investment into shipping, ship repair, and logistics.
Analysts believe that promoting experienced officers will motivate junior staff to pursue performance benchmarks, creating a ripple effect that fosters accountability and professionalism across the agency.
