By George George Idowu

The 6 Division of the Nigerian Army has made a significant discovery by uncovering a substantial illegal refinery camp in Rivers State. Along with this, they seized five million litres of stolen crude oil stored in a reservoir.

Maj.-Gen. Jamal Abdussalam, the General Officer Commanding 6 Division, disclosed this development, revealing that the illegal refinery was located along the Mirinwanyi channel of the Imo River in the Komkom area of Oyigbo Local Government Area.

Maj.-Gen. Abdussalam emphasized the involvement of powerful individuals behind the oil theft due to the operation’s scale and complexity. He stressed the need to apprehend those responsible for these illegal activities.

While addressing the media, Maj.-Gen. Abdussalam stated, “It is beyond the people we arrest. We are following several leads, and we are hoping that those leads will take us to those who are actually responsible.”

This revelation follows a previous discovery of three million litres of crude oil in an illegal refinery in Odagwa, Etche Local Government Area. The military remains determined to eradicate all illegal refineries and connections within its jurisdiction, continuing operations based on credible intelligence.

The recent raid uncovered over 15 boilers and nine reservoirs, estimating the volume of stolen crude oil at over five million litres. Despite the persistence of illegal activities, the military is resolute in its mission to combat such operations and maintain the security of the region.

Maj.-Gen. Abdussalam expressed commitment to the ongoing efforts, stating, “We will not get tired. We will continue with our job.”
