By Abdullahi Lukman

Nigeria has signed a renewable energy partnership with firms from the United Kingdom and Türkiye following the execution of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at expanding the country’s renewable energy infrastructure.

This was disclosed in a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday by the National Coordinator of the National Committee on Energy Efficiency, Innovation and Certification (NCEEIC), Mr. Nwadavid Chijioke.

He said the partnership will focus on key renewable energy projects such as the establishment of a Solar PV Quality Assurance Laboratory, deployment of solar solutions in hospitals, development of utility-scale solar farms, and plans for local solar manufacturing.

Parties to the MoU, which was signed during a visit by a Nigerian delegation to Türkiye, include the National Committee on Energy Efficiency, Innovation and Certification (NCEEIC), Altimapa Limited of the United Kingdom, Alfa Solar Energy of Türkiye, and Peninsula Corporate Finance, also based in Türkiye.

The statement noted that the projects are designed to strengthen renewable energy infrastructure across the country and improve electricity supply to healthcare facilities, particularly in remote communities.

It added that the proposed Solar PV Quality Assurance Laboratory would promote standards and quality assurance for solar products in the sector.

Officials said the agreement forms part of ongoing efforts to deepen cooperation on renewable energy development in Nigeria.
