Nestlé Sustainability Training 2023 Concludes with Focus on Nutrition, Health, and Environmental Awareness

The annual Nestlé Sustainability training, organized by the Lagos Business School Sustainability Centre (LBSSC) to equip journalists and media practitioners working in the areas of nutrition, health, and environment with the necessary skills and knowledge to promote sustainability through their reporting concluded with an in-person session held from July 26th to 28th, 2023.

The training provided an in-depth exploration of data analysis, sustainability trends, and solution journalism.

Participants gained a profound understanding of the relationship between the environment and food systems, enabling them to effectively communicate best practices, lifestyle choices, and policy directions that foster sustainability in food systems, lives, and communities.

Representatives from Nestlé Nigeria, including Victoria Uwadoka, the Corporate Communications and Public Affairs Manager, expressed their appreciation to the Lagos Business School for delivering the programme effectively.

Nestlé’s commitment to empowering journalists with accurate information and valuable reporting skills was commended, as it contributes to building a healthier and more sustainable future for all Nigerians.

The training emphasized the crucial role of media in addressing climate change issues and influencing public attitudes and behaviors towards sustainable agriculture practices, food systems, and environmental conservation.

Participants were encouraged to engage in ethical and fact-based reporting to promote a more informed and enlightened society that embraces sustainable practices and values.

This year’s training focused on highlighting the interdependence between nutrition, health, sustainability, climate change, and food systems in the Nigerian context. The impact of individual behaviors and community cultures on these dynamics was underscored, aiming to drive positive attitudinal change.

As part of the training, participants visited Lekki Urban Forestry and Animal Shelter Initiative (LUFASI) Park in Lagos for an experiential learning session. LUFASI Park serves as a sanctuary for flora and fauna, endangered aquatic life, and avian species, providing valuable insights into the effects of climate change on natural ecosystems.

The participants engaged in fun activities such as game fishing during the field trip.
Throughout the programme, participants actively interacted in group presentations, and awards were given to recognize the most active and punctual participants.

Nestlé Nigeria reiterated its commitment to maintaining respect for the media and engaging continuously with stakeholders for better outcomes.

Overall, the 2023 Nestlé Sustainability training strengthened the capacity of media professionals to promote sustainability, nutrition, health, and environmental awareness, contributing to a more sustainable and informed society in Nigeria.
