NDDC targets jobs, agribusiness growth with Niger Delta investment drive

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) is stepping up efforts to stimulate employment and agribusiness development through a new agricultural investment drive aimed at unlocking the economic potential of the region.

Ahead of the Niger Delta Agricultural Development and Investment Summit scheduled for Wednesday, July 15, 2026, in Abuja, the Commission said it is rolling out initiatives designed to attract private investment into agriculture, expand value chains and create sustainable livelihoods across the nine Niger Delta states.

NDDC Managing Director, Samuel Ogbuku, said agriculture remains a strategic sector for tackling unemployment, increasing rural incomes and supporting the Federal Government’s food security agenda.

He noted that the Commission plans to promote investments across crop production, livestock, fisheries and agro-processing by identifying the comparative agricultural strengths of each Niger Delta state and encouraging coordinated regional development.

According to the Commission, the summit will convene government officials, investors, development partners, financial institutions and agribusiness operators to explore financing opportunities, technology adoption and partnerships that can accelerate agricultural transformation in the region.

The initiative also seeks to empower farmers and agripreneurs by improving access to finance, modern farming practices and market opportunities, while strengthening the region’s contribution to national food production.

The Commission expressed confidence that increased public-private collaboration would help diversify the Niger Delta economy, reduce dependence on oil revenues and position the region as a major hub for sustainable agricultural investment.
