NCYP urges community sensitization to tackle rain floods in Nigeria
By Abdullahi Lukman
The Northern Christian Youth Professionals (NCYP) has called for urgent community-based sensitization to combat rain-induced flooding across Nigeria.
This appeal was made during a courtesy visit to the Director General of the National Hydrological Services Agency (NHSA), Mr. Umar Mohammad, in Abuja.
NCYP Chairman Isaac Abrak referenced the recent flooding incident in Mokwa, Niger State, highlighting the need for increased public awareness and proactive measures.
In response, NHSA Director General Umar Mohammad assured that the agency will soon launch expanded community sensitization and enlightenment programs, beginning next week, targeting flood-prone areas to better inform residents and encourage preventive actions.
Mohammad stressed that while flooding is a natural phenomenon, collective responsibility and public cooperation with government efforts are vital to minimizing its destructive effects.
He also urged Nigerians to support President Tinubu’s reform agenda, emphasizing the importance of prayers and unity in advancing good governance and improving citizens’ lives.
