Nasarawa emerging key player in Nigeria’s mining industry Minister

By Grace Ademulegun

Minister of Solid Minerals Development Dr. Dele Alake, has delivered glad tidings to Nasarawa State, saying that it is on course to becoming Nigeria’s mining hub.

Speaking at the ministry’s Abuja headquarters during a courtesy visit on him by Nasarawa State Governor, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, Alake highlighted the state’s enormous lithium reserves, which have already drawn significant investment.

“For example, the amount of lithium in Nasarawa State is enormous,” the minister stated.

“Because it is essentially a mining epicentre in Nigeria, it is critical that we constantly consult with the governor and work with him to increase mining operations in the state,” said Alake.

He added that there have been major improvements in Nigeria’s solid minerals sector during the last 17 months, and international investors are once again showing interest in the country.

In his remarks, Governor Sule commended the Minister for spearheading the mining industry’s implementation of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

He emphasised that the state’s lithium facilities are running at maximum capacity and that more are being built. While conceding that insecurity is still a major obstacle, he emphasised the significance of ongoing cooperation with the business sector to fortify the mining value chain.

Sule disclosed that continuous talks with Abubakar Badaru, the Minister of Defence, are being held to address these issues and guarantee the security of both mining activities and locals.

“This meeting’s goal is to collaborate and resolve security issues so that mining operations can continue without interference,” he stated.
