The Federal Government, through the National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA), has inaugurated a 160-shop vegetable market in Kwadon, Yamaltu-Deba Local Government Area of Gombe State to improve market access for farmers and strengthen the agricultural value chain.
NALDA developed the market, while the Gombe State Government provided supporting infrastructure, including perimeter fencing, roads, solar-powered streetlights and water facilities.
Speaking at the handover, NALDA Executive Secretary, Cornelius Adebayo, described the project as a product of collaboration between the Federal Government and the state government. He said the market would provide a reliable outlet for vegetable farmers and stimulate economic activities in the area.
Adebayo also disclosed that NALDA had completed irrigation and cold-storage facilities at three locations across the state to support year-round vegetable production and ensure a steady supply of produce to the market.
He further announced that Gombe would be the second North-East state after Bauchi to benefit from the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Mega Farm Project.
Commissioning the market, APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, said the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda on food security and rural development.
Governor Muhammadu Yahaya said the project demonstrated the benefits of cooperation among the federal, state and local governments, expressing optimism that it would boost agricultural trade, improve farmers’ incomes and drive economic growth in the state.
