By Abdullahi Lukman

The National Agricultural Extension and Research Liaison Services (NAERLS) at Ahmadu Bello University has completed a three-month in-house training for its staff to enhance the editorial skills, focusing on ethical and accurate dissemination of agricultural information.

Dr. Ismail Olawale, Head of the Editorial Unit at NAERLS, said the training ran from April to July 2025 and was designed to improve both theoretical knowledge and practical editing skills.

The program featured expert editors and a two-day intensive workshop by specialists from the Department of English and Literary Studies at Ahmadu Bello University.

Topics included grammar, syntax, editorial ethics, editor-author-stakeholder relations, and critical thinking exercises.

Prof. Jaliya Muhammad, Deputy Director at NAERLS, expressed concern over declining content quality and urged full commitment to the training to uphold the institute’s standing as Nigeria’s foremost agricultural research and extension body.

Prof. Abdullahi Jamilu, Assistant Director of Extension, Training, and Outreach, encouraged editors to maximize the training’s benefits to enhance content quality across all platforms.

Executive Director Prof. Sani Ahmed commended the team’s dedication and announced plans for a second phase of training focusing on electronic editing and ethical AI use.

Weekly refresher sessions will also continue to keep editors updated on editorial trends.

The initiative reflects NAERLS’ ongoing commitment to capacity building and editorial excellence in agricultural communication.
