More communities to benefit from water scheme – Rivers LG boss

Mr Erastus Awortu, Chairman, Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers, said more communities would benefit from his administration’s Neighborhood Water Scheme.

Awortu had reactivated 10,000 litres capacity water supply plant at Ngo town.

Awortu gave the assurance on Monday in Ngo, the council’s headquarters, barely two months after commissioning similar water projects in two communities of Asuk-Ama and Asuk-Oyet in the area.

He said that the scheme was to address water shortage in the area, adding that it targeted rural communities and fishing settlements.

“The Ngo water supply plant had been abandoned before our administration, resulting to high level water scarcity within the council’s headquarters and adjourning communities.

“Households were left with no option than to struggle with the attendant challenges posed by contaminated water.

“The situation is different now with the reactivation and upgrade of the Ngo water supply plant to 10,000 litres capacity, a treatment plant and reticulation within the community.

“A solar power panel was also installed to ensure steady power supply for the water facility,” he said.

The neighbourhood water scheme by the Awortu administration is aimed at providing safe drinking water for the local populace.

The project was initiated to eradicate cholera and other water borne diseases in the area.
