The Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA) has mounted a road sensitisation campaign across major areas of Ikeja to educate residents on the importance of compliance with planning permit laws ahead of its 2025 stakeholders’ engagement.
The campaign, which began from LASPPPA headquarters in Ikeja GRA, covered locations including Ikeja under bridge, Oba Akran, Agidingbi, Alausa, Oregun Road, Opebi Road, Sheraton, and Maryland.
Officials explained how timely compliance with planning regulations helps guarantee investment equity, prevent building collapse, ensure proper urban development, and support government efforts in managing city growth.
Residents were reminded that approvals are compulsory before carrying out construction, demolition, remodelling, or property ownership changes.
They were also warned that non-compliance attracts sanctions and urged to avoid touts by applying directly at LASPPPA offices or online, where approvals can be issued within 10 days.
The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Olumide Oluyinka, joined the procession after receiving LASPPPA officials at his office in Alausa.
He emphasised that the campaign was designed to address low public awareness on planning permits and stressed that every structure must have a permit, describing it as the “birth certificate” of a building.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Electronic Geographic Information System, Dr. Babatunde Olajide, and the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Mr. Oluwole Sotire, also urged residents to comply with planning laws, noting that violations could negatively affect society.
LASPPPA General Manager, Mr. Kehinde Osinaike, said the exercise built on earlier sensitisation successes, noting an increase in submissions and approvals.
A fuel attendant, Mr. Mazi Alphonsus, applauded the effort, saying such campaigns would prevent costly mistakes and save residents from the heartbreak of demolitions amid economic hardship.
