The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has sealed over 40 facilities across Lagos for violating the state’s noise pollution regulations, as part of ongoing enforcement to ensure environmental compliance.
The General Manager of LASEPA, Babatunde Ajayi, disclosed this over the weekend during an inter-district essay competition involving selected secondary schools, where he reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to tackling noise pollution across the state.
Ajayi said the enforcement drive targets various establishments, including religious centres, entertainment venues, and event centres, noting that the agency has sustained regular monitoring and enforcement efforts.
According to him, LASEPA may take stricter action, including permanent closure, against facilities that persist in breaching noise control laws even after enforcement measures.
Ajayi also urged residents to comply with approved noise limits, explaining that permissible levels vary across locations such as schools, residential areas, commercial zones, and industrial environments.
The Head of LASEPA’s Noise Control Unit, Mrs. Abosede Natufe, described the essay competition as part of the agency’s advocacy efforts, encouraging students to promote awareness of noise pollution in their communities.
She expressed confidence that participants would help educate others on the dangers of excessive noise and the importance of adhering to environmental regulations.
Also speaking, Ayodele Oluwanifemi, winner of the 2026 International Noise Awareness Day competition, called for stricter enforcement and compliance with noise pollution laws nationwide.
LASEPA’s enforcement actions form part of broader efforts to curb environmental violations and promote a healthier living environment for residents, following repeated warnings and inspections of non-compliant facilities.
