The Lagos State Government is intensifying efforts to address water shortages through the rehabilitation of key waterworks and the installation of new pumping equipment, the Lagos Water Corporation (LWC) has said.
LWC Managing Director, Engr. Mukhtaar Temitope Tijani, gave the assurance during an inspection of ongoing rehabilitation works at the Iju Headworks.
Tijani said the intervention was part of the Lagos Water Renewal Programme, which is aimed at restoring the production capacity of critical water facilities and improving access to potable water across the state.
At the Iju Waterworks, six new clear-water pumps and a pump head are being installed to replace 12 ageing pumps. Tijani said procurement had been completed, all equipment had been delivered and installation was progressing according to schedule.
He expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of work, while commending KSB Pumps for its performance on the project.
The corporation is also planning a similar intervention at the Akute Waterworks, where two new raw-water pumps with a combined abstraction capacity of 24 million gallons per day are expected to be installed.
Tijani said the Akute pumps were expected to arrive before the end of the month, with installation to begin immediately after delivery.
Project Manager of KSB Pumps, Engr. John Adetayo Gbadegesin, said the contractor was committed to completing the Iju rehabilitation before the end of the year.
He said restoring the facility would increase its capacity to provide potable water to Lagos residents and support the state government’s efforts to improve water supply.
Tijani said the ongoing interventions were part of broader efforts to revive the state’s water infrastructure and ensure more reliable supply to residents.
