Lagos govt orders swift waste evacuation, reiterates flood-free target

By Awyetu Asabe Hope

The Lagos State Government has directed immediate evacuation of waste generated during the monthly environmental sanitation exercise, reaffirming its commitment to a flood-free city.

Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, said on Sunday that operational teams had been mobilised across Lagos, with hourly monitoring to ensure rapid clearance of refuse.

He noted that personnel from LAWMA, ministry enforcement units, private operators, and local councils were actively removing waste from streets, while drainage channels and canals were being cleared simultaneously to curb flooding as rains intensify.

Wahab urged residents to maintain proper waste disposal habits, stressing that environmental cleanliness remains key to flood prevention.
