The Kogi State Government, in partnership with ACRES Group, has engaged traditional leaders in its efforts to create an inclusive climate change policy.
As part of a week-long series of consultations, the delegation visited Alhaji Ibrahim Gambo Kabir Maikarfi IV, the Maigari of Lokoja, to emphasize the role of traditional institutions in the policy development process.
Led by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Climate Change, Michael Onimisi Ajibade, the visit marked the third day of the state’s ongoing climate change engagement.
The government aims to build a people-centered framework that incorporates the perspectives of indigenous institutions and local communities.
Ajibade stressed the importance of grassroots mobilization in addressing climate change and reiterated Governor Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo’s commitment to a participatory approach.
“This policy process is about creating a framework that reflects the concerns, knowledge, and aspirations of our people,” he said.
Prof. Jimmy Adegoke, Managing Partner and Lead Consultant of ACRES Group, also expressed the importance of integrating indigenous knowledge with scientific strategies to tackle environmental challenges in the state.
