Kenya and the Swiss Confederation have signed a Bilateral Implementation Agreement, paving the way for collaboration on carbon market initiatives and the transfer of mitigation outcomes.
The signing, which took place in Kenya on Tuesday, was done under Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement on 2 May 2025.
The Swiss Government revealed that it has designated the Foundation for Climate Protection and Carbon Offset (KliK) as the official purchaser of mitigation outcomes generated under the agreement.
A post by the Kenya Department of Environment and Climate Change on its X social media handle revealed that KliK supports climate protection projects in countries that have entered into bilateral climate agreements with Switzerland under Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement.
“Today, the Principal Secretary for Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Eng. Festus K. Ng’eno, CBS, MIEK, held a productive meeting with Mr. Yannick Träris-Kahriman, Director of Carbon Procurement at KliK, to discuss the development of Kenya’s project pipeline under the bilateral agreement,” the statement read in part.
Both parties expressed optimism about the successful implementation of the proposed projects.
The project pipeline focuses on key sectors including energy, transport, and waste management.
