Kano Governor Approves Water Treatment Plant in Rano Following Aquifer Discovery

By Abbas Nazil
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has ordered the immediate establishment of a water treatment plant in Rano Local Government Area following the discovery of a major underground water source.
The move comes after geological and hydrological experts confirmed the presence of a viable aquifer in the Taliwaiwai area, identifying it as a potential long-term solution to the community’s ongoing water scarcity challenges.
During an assessment visit to Rano, Governor Yusuf was briefed on the breakthrough by the Commissioner for Water Resources, Umar Haruna Doguwa.
The experts had carried out comprehensive assessments and confirmed that the aquifer has the capacity to sustainably supply clean and safe water to thousands of residents.
The governor described the development as a significant milestone for his administration, emphasizing its alignment with his broader commitment to revitalizing critical social infrastructure across the state.
Governor Yusuf assured the people of Rano that his government would expedite the planning and execution of the water treatment plant.
He promised to ensure prompt design, adequate funding, and efficient implementation of the project, while also prioritizing community participation and environmental sustainability.
According to the governor, the project will not only address domestic water needs but will also support agricultural activities in the region, thereby enhancing livelihoods and contributing to food security.
The governor’s announcement was met with enthusiasm by local leaders and residents, many of whom have endured years of unreliable water access.
The project is expected to bring relief to the people of Rano and surrounding communities, marking a new chapter in the state’s water management strategy.
The discovery and planned development follow sustained advocacy by the Emir of Rano, who had earlier appealed to the state government to intervene in the water challenges affecting the area.
Governor Yusuf had, in response, pledged to prioritize the water sector and address the underlying issues contributing to water shortages across Kano State.
The aquifer discovery and subsequent approval of the treatment plant form part of the administration’s broader effort to improve access to basic amenities and enhance the quality of life for citizens.
Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s readiness to collaborate with experts, stakeholders, and local communities to ensure the successful completion and long-term sustainability of the project.
As implementation begins, the state government is expected to engage with environmental and civil engineers, local contractors, and community leaders to ensure that the project meets technical standards and fulfills its promise of delivering clean water to thousands in Rano and beyond.
