Kaduna State’s Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES) has trained veterinarians and community animal health workers in modern disease surveillance techniques aimed at strengthening livestock health and minimizing economic losses.
The two-day workshop, held in Kaduna, was disclosed by Dr. Zacharia Pakachi, Director of Veterinary Services, Ministry of Agriculture.
The training supports the World Bank-backed L-PRES Project Development Objective to build resilience in the livestock value chain against shocks.
Topics covered included disease identification, surveillance, reporting systems, biosecurity, biosafety, survey design, and early warning mechanisms.
Dr. Pakachi emphasized the goal of reducing livestock disease outbreaks to single digits, safeguarding the economy and protecting farmers’ livelihoods.
Facilitators ensured the sessions were practical and interactive, helping participants apply new skills effectively.
Veterinarians who attended praised the program for equipping them with vital tools to detect, report, and prevent disease spread, enhancing livestock productivity and community resilience.
