The Jigawa State Government has approved N7 billion to pay agro-input dealers and service providers for the 2025 dry season rice cultivation programme, aimed at accelerating the Dry Season Rice Input Voucher System.
The announcement was made by Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports and Culture, Sagir Musa, during the State Executive Council meeting in Dutse.
This funding complements the N3.27 billion already redeemed by farmers from last season’s programme, bringing total government support to over N10.3 billion.
Musa emphasized the state’s commitment to agricultural transformation through investment in dry season rice farming to enhance food security and empower rural farmers.
Key interventions include timely provision of high-quality seeds, fertilizers, and chemicals to thousands of farmers, reinforcing Jigawa’s ambition to become a leading rice production hub in Nigeria.
Additionally, the council approved N365.7 million for the construction of 4,600 tube wells across farming communities to improve water access and boost productivity during the dry season.
The government’s focus on expanding irrigation infrastructure and ensuring full payment of inputs is expected to pave the way for a bumper harvest and increased smallholder farmer empowerment.
