By JABIRU HASSAN, Dutse.
Jigawa State chairman of the All Farmers Association (AFAN) Chairman Alhaji Idris Yau Mai Unguwa, has said farmers in the state will continue to boost food production despite last year’s flooding.
Speaking to NatureNews in Dutse, Mai Unguwa said the farmers’ commitments to enhancing mass food production was high though the state was severely affected by the flood disaster that resulted in the loss of farm produce worth millions of naira last year.
“AFAN is aware that food production in Jigawa State suffered set back due to flooding where many farms were washed away, people rendered homeless while others died as a result of the disaster, but we know that the Jigawa State Government is making good efforts to ensure that serious flooding is gradually reducing annually,” he added.
The chairman further commended Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar for bringing experts from The Netherlands that would examine and bring out a solution to the flooding and also raise funds that would be used to assist the families of those who lost lives, houses and farm produce which is an important humanitarian assistance.
Furthermore, Mai Unguwa stressed that AFAN and Jigawa State government would continue to work together so as to boost agriculture at both dry and raining seasons in order to bridge the gap of what had happened this during year’s crops production.
