HYPREP Provides Technical Training for 100 Ogonis to Cushion Hardships

The Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP), has commenced technical training for one hundred persons as part of its empowerment programme to cushion hardships caused by years of oil spill and environmental degradation in Ogoni.
The training is in preparatory for beneficiaries to participate and benefit from the Ogoni Power Project. The beneficiaries, mainly Ogoni citizens, are drawn from the four local government areas that make up Ogoni, viz Eleme, Gokana, Khana and Tai.
It was gathered that the programme, designed to equip beneficiaries in Electrical field will commence on Monday October 16, in Sakpenwa, headquarters of Tai local government area of Rivers State.
Giving details of the programme in Port Harcourt at the weekend, Consultant, and Managing Director of Petro Extra Energy Services, Engr John Yorwika, said his company had been engaged by HYPREP to localise training of some Ogonis with skills that will enable them participate in aspects of the Ogoni Power Project.
Yorwika, who pointed out that Petro Extra Energy Services is a COREN Certified Consulting Firm, informed that beneficiaries are persons who are Electricians, Artisans, including those with Bachelors, Masters, and PhD from Ogoni.
According to Yorwika, “the programme would include trainings in Transmission Line, Distribution Line, Earthing System, Transformer installation handling, sub-station construction, as well as Handling Electrical Equipment, and Electrical Health Safety.”
