Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has affirmed the state’s readiness to host the Renewed Hope Climate Change Awareness Tour (REHCCAT), a nationwide initiative aimed at promoting climate resilience, environmental sustainability, green growth and public awareness of climate change.
In a statement issued by Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Katsina State on Tuesday, the event was announced to hold in Katsina in July 2026.
The programme is designed to bring climate change discussions closer to local communities, including farmers, women, youths, traders and students. It seeks to encourage practical actions that will help communities adapt to climate-related challenges while supporting sustainable development.
Governor Radda said climate change remains a critical issue, particularly in Katsina where agriculture plays a vital role in the state’s economy. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to environmental protection, sustainable agricultural practices, tree planting initiatives and community participation in climate action.
Speaking on preparations for the programme, the Katsina State Focal Person for REHCCAT, Hon. Suleiman Ribadu, disclosed that a major town hall meeting would be organised as part of the event.
The meeting is expected to bring together government officials, development partners, traditional rulers, farmers, youth groups, women’s organisations and other stakeholders to discuss solutions to climate challenges affecting communities across the state.
Ribadu commended Governor Radda for accepting to host the programme and for supporting initiatives aimed at improving environmental sustainability and the well-being of citizens.
He added that preparations for the event were already underway to ensure its successful hosting, noting that the governor’s support reflects his commitment to policies and programmes that promote a safer and more sustainable future.
