FRSC seeks stronger institutional capacity to improve road safety services
By Rasheeda Hamidu
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has called for stronger institutional capacity, technology-driven operations and strategic leadership to improve road safety service delivery amid Nigeria’s evolving transport challenges.
The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, made the call on Wednesday at the Half Year 2026 Corps Marshal Strategy Session with the FRSC High Command in Abuja, themed “Strengthening Institutional Capacity for Enhanced Service Delivery in a Challenging Environment.”
Mohammed said the corps recorded commendable achievements during the second quarter of 2026 in enforcement, public enlightenment, emergency response, patrol operations and stakeholder engagement.
He said the performance should serve as a motivation to build a stronger, more resilient institution capable of delivering efficient and responsive road safety services rather than a reason for complacency.
“The FRSC must remain an institution that anticipates emerging challenges rather than merely responding to them,” Mohammed said.
He noted that rapid technological advancement, changing traffic patterns, increasing vehicle population, emerging mobility trends and rising public expectations required the corps to strengthen leadership, personnel development, innovation, data management and accountability.
Mohammed urged commanders and senior officers to strengthen coordination across formations, stressing that institutional effectiveness depended on a unified commitment to service excellence.
Representing the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, Abubakar Kana, said the strategy session reflected the need to build stronger institutions capable of delivering improved services in an increasingly demanding operational environment.
NatureNews notes that efficient road safety management contributes to environmental sustainability by reducing traffic congestion, lowering fuel consumption and vehicle emissions, while improving public safety and supporting sustainable transportation systems.
NatureNews reports that strengthening institutional capacity, embracing technology and improving emergency response remain essential to achieving safer and more sustainable road transport across Nigeria.
