The People Expertise and Excellence Foundation (PEEF) and the Ministry of Livestock Development have entered into a strategic partnership aimed at driving innovation and accelerating growth in Nigeria’s livestock sector.
This collaboration was solidified during a courtesy visit by a PEEF delegation to the Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Idi Mukhtar Maiha, at his office in Abuja.
During the visit, the minister expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, particularly in light of his own affiliation with PEEF.
He emphasized the potential of leveraging technology to transform livestock management and expressed confidence in PEEF’s capacity to contribute meaningfully through its pool of experts and innovative approaches.
Maiha endorsed the ministry’s collaboration with PEEF for the upcoming Annual Conference in November 2025, themed “Leveraging Technology for an Improved Livestock Sector in Nigeria.”
As a sign of commitment, the minister approved the formation of a joint planning committee comprising representatives from both PEEF and the ministry to organize the event.
The conference is expected to serve as a platform to explore cutting-edge solutions and share global best practices that can be adapted to the Nigerian context.
It will also serve to reinforce ongoing initiatives of the ministry and attract investment, particularly the \$2 billion in potential funding projected by the ministry.
The minister further assured PEEF of the ministry’s full participation, both at the panel discussions and the main conference sessions.
Speaking during the visit, PEEF’s Board of Trustees Chairman, Engr. Abdullah Bukar, congratulated the minister on his recent appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and applauded the efforts of the ministry under his leadership.
He reaffirmed PEEF’s passion for livestock development and its readiness to contribute to the sector through knowledge exchange, policy advocacy, and mentorship.
He stated that PEEF had formally extended an invitation and a request for sponsorship and collaboration for the upcoming conference.
Engr. Bukar highlighted the importance of embracing digital innovation in livestock management, stressing that Nigeria possesses the manpower and land resources necessary for large-scale development but requires technological enablers to spur significant progress.
According to him, modernizing the livestock sector with proven global solutions customized for Nigeria’s environment is essential for sustainable growth.
PEEF’s Executive Secretary, Dr. Musa Rabiu, explained that the organization has consistently focused on human capital development, citing its previous conferences on education, skills acquisition, health, and the steel sector.
He noted that this upcoming conference would be PEEF’s first dedicated to livestock development, and it would bring together a diverse group of experts, including business leaders and professionals from within and outside Nigeria.
Dr. Rabiu also announced the foundation’s plans to introduce a mentorship program targeting startups in animal husbandry.
The initiative aims to provide guidance and support to emerging entrepreneurs in the livestock space, helping them navigate the complexities of the industry with the assistance of a robust network of seasoned professionals.
