Flood submerges homes, shops in Jalingo, cuts off road Link

By Awyetu Asabe Hope

Several houses, shops and schools were submerged after hours of heavy rainfall flooded parts of Jalingo early Saturday, leaving residents counting losses and disrupting movement.

The downpour, which began around 2:30 a.m. and lasted until late morning, affected low-lying communities including Mile Six, Mafindi and Mayogwai, while the Jalingo Main Market was inundated.

Floodwaters also washed away a temporary bridge near the collapsed Namnai Bridge along the Jalingo–Wukari road, stranding travellers on both sides of River Namnai.

Residents blamed blocked drainage systems caused by indiscriminate waste disposal, as efforts began to deploy boats to ferry stranded passengers.
