The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, on Tuesday in Abuja, commissioned a fleet of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses, aimed at boosting workers mobility and facilitating transition to clean energy.
During a staff engagement forum held at his office, Edun emphasized that the Ministry of Finance plays a pivotal role in national economic transformation and must be internally robust to effectively deliver on the country’s broader reform goals.
According to him, the newly acquired CNG buses, provided under the Presidential Initiative on CNG, are part of the Ministry’s dual commitment to enhancing staff mobility while supporting the national transition to cleaner and more cost-effective energy alternatives.
He expressed the necessity for the ministry to embody fiscal discipline, transparency, and efficiency that the private sector expects from the Federal Government, pointing out that these standards are key to restoring investor confidence and achieving inclusive prosperity.
The event was attended by the Chairman of the Presidential Initiative on CNG, Barrister Ismaeel Ahmed, who praised the initiative’s strategic importance in mainstreaming eco-friendly transport across government institutions and boosting local industry.
Ahmed stated that beyond serving the environmental objective, the initiative is designed to develop domestic industrial value chains and align public transportation with the nation’s green growth agenda.
In addition to the commissioning of the CNG buses, Edun also announced the reinstatement of monthly welfare packages for Ministry staff, describing it as a morale-boosting measure to stabilize and inspire the workforce as they carry out treasury reforms and improve public service delivery.
He stressed that an engaged, well-supported staff is essential to the success of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts in macroeconomic restructuring, digitalization of treasury functions, and operational efficiency.
Earlier in her welcome remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Finance, Mrs. Lydia Shehu Jafiya, lauded Edun’s leadership and described the engagement forum as a timely platform for reflection, unity, and renewed commitment to national service.
She urged all staff to exemplify the highest standards of professionalism and discipline, qualities she said are urgently needed to stabilize the economy and implement effective policy measures.
