CRISPON urges Nigerian youth to embrace information technology opportunities

By Abbas Nazil

The Director General of the Cross River State Political Network, Michael Abuo, has urged Nigerian youths to take advantage of opportunities in the information technology sector to develop themselves and build successful careers.

Abuo made the call during the presentation of a Meritorious Service Award to Augustine Ugi, President and Founder of Nugi Technologies, at an event held in Calabar, the capital of Cross River State.

He encouraged young Nigerians to emulate the achievements of the technology entrepreneur, noting that the country’s growing digital economy offers numerous opportunities for innovation, entrepreneurship and personal development.

According to Abuo, Nigerian youths must focus on developing digital and technological skills that will allow them to remain competitive in an increasingly technology-driven global economy.

The CRISPON Director General, who also serves as Special Adviser to the Cross River State Governor on Intervention, said the recognition was the first award presented by the organisation to honour individuals contributing significantly to technology and economic empowerment.

He described Ugi as a resilient entrepreneur who has overcome major personal and health challenges to build a successful career in the technology sector.

Abuo explained that despite living with sickle cell disease, the award recipient remained determined to pursue his passion for technology and eventually established a thriving technology company.

He noted that Ugi transitioned into the field of computer science and went on to establish Nugi Technologies, which has since grown into a platform focused on software development and data infrastructure.

According to the citation read during the award ceremony, Ugi has led the company for nearly two decades and recently marked its tenth anniversary with a technology showcase highlighting innovations developed by the organisation.

Abuo said the achievements of the entrepreneur align with the broader objectives of the Cross River State Political Network, which he described as one of the largest socio-political organisations in the state.

He explained that the organisation aims to strengthen national unity, promote good leadership and support initiatives that contribute to peace, security and economic development across Nigeria.

The CRISPON leader further noted that Ugi’s contributions to technology innovation and youth empowerment represent the type of leadership and initiative the organisation seeks to promote.

He urged Nigerian youths to draw inspiration from such examples and focus on building skills that can contribute to national development.

In his acceptance speech, Ugi expressed appreciation to CRISPON for recognising his contributions and presenting him with the award.

He described the recognition as both an honour and a responsibility that would motivate him to continue contributing to technological development and economic growth in Cross River State and Nigeria.

Ugi stated that technology remains one of the most powerful tools for improving productivity, strengthening governance systems and expanding economic opportunities for citizens.

He said greater use of digital tools and technological solutions could significantly improve revenue generation and administrative efficiency in Cross River State.

The technology entrepreneur also encouraged Nigerian youths to pursue their chosen career paths with determination and integrity.

He stressed that passion, discipline and ethical conduct remain essential qualities for anyone seeking long-term success in the technology industry or any other profession.

Ugi added that the digital economy continues to expand globally, creating new opportunities for young people who are willing to learn modern skills and apply innovative ideas.

He emphasised that with the right mindset and commitment, Nigerian youths can play a major role in transforming the country’s technological landscape and contributing to broader national development.
