Citizens embrace environmental sanitation as exercise resumes in Lagos

By Barbara Nwaiwu

The Lagos State Government has recorded high compliance following the reintroduction of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise aimed at improving cleanliness and public health across the state.

The sanitation exercise, now rescheduled for last Saturday of every month from 6:30am to 8:30am, resumed today following it’s suspension since November 2016.

Residents across various parts of the state actively participated in the exercise, which was revived to promote environmental responsibility and proper hygiene practices.

The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, expressed satisfaction with the level of compliance, noting that the exercise recorded an impressive turnout across many communities.

Wahab attributed the success of the exercise to sustained awareness campaigns and sensitisation efforts carried out by the government prior to its reintroduction.

The government emphasised that the reintroduction of the sanitation programme is part of broader efforts to improve waste management, prevent flooding, and reduce environmental health risks in the state.

Officials say the revived sanitation exercise is part of broader efforts to promote public health, prevent disease outbreaks, and restore a culture of cleanliness across Lagos communities.
