Chinese Companies Pledge Support for Nigeria’s Humanitarian Hub, Solar Shelters

Two Chinese companies, CCECC and SINOREN, have expressed their willingness to support the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation in Nigeria to construct a humanitarian hub and provide solar light for shelters built for the poor and vulnerable in the country.

The representatives of the companies made this known on Friday when they paid a courtesy call to the Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Betta Edu, in her office.

They commended her for the speed with which she has transformed the humanitarian space, noting that they would like to be part of the success stories of the ministry.

They said, having been in Nigeria for several decades, the growth and development of the country is part of their commitment.

They also praised the cordial relationship between Nigeria and China, and expressed their readiness to contribute to the social and economic well-being of Nigerians.

The Minister, Dr Betta Edu, thanked them for their gesture and assured them of President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to building a proper humanitarian response system in the country and creating a hub from which people affected by humanitarian crises in the country can have some relief in record time.

She expressed satisfaction with the solar light, which she said was a renewable and affordable energy source for the new shelters being constructed.

She said the humanitarian hub and the solar shelters would enhance the ministry’s capacity to deliver timely and effective humanitarian assistance to the most vulnerable and needy populations in the country.

She also said the ministry would work closely with the companies to ensure the successful implementation of the projects.

The meeting ended with the exchange of goodwill and the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the ministry and the companies.
