An advocacy body, Climate Africa Media Initiative Centre (CAMIC), has commended the Kaduna State government for the newly-built Christmas Garden.
CAMIC said the Government’s initiative in transforming a once known notorious ‘Triangular Spot’ dump site to a Christmas Garden, shows the importance in which the government places on not just the aesthetic beauty of the state, but in combating climate change.
The body also stated that the Christmas Garden, which will serve as a recreational centre for children and fun lovers, will also boost the economic well-being of the state and improve security in the area.
CAMIC made the commendation in a statement signed by its Chief Growth Officer, Pius Alabi, at the weekend.
The body said: “The importance of gardens to climate change mitigation cannot be over-emphasize. The development of a a once known notorious ‘Triangular Spot’ dump site to a Christmas Garden, is an indication of the government’s drive to providing a secured environment for the people of the state.
“Besides, it goes further to show the importance in which the government places on not just the aesthetic beauty of the state, but in combating climate change.”
“The transformation will also improve the health and living conditions of residents around the area, because of the stench that the people had to ensure from the dump site before it was turned to the Christmas Garden.”
Meanwhile, the State Governor, Mr. Uba Sani, has emphasized his administration’s vision for inclusivity and development.
The Principal Private Secretary to the Governor, Professor Bello Ayuba, made this known at a media parley on boxing day. He underscored the administration’s commitment to fostering unity and progress across Kaduna State, noting that the governor has undertaken 68 road projects covering approximately 700 kilometers and has made efforts to transform rural communities through infrastructural development.
Ayuba further highlighted the governor’s commitment to creating a peaceful and harmonious Kaduna, devoid of religious or tribal biases.
He said: “Governor Uba Sani is dedicated to ensuring that his government serves all residents equally. The Christmas Garden is a testament to this inclusive approach.”
Also speaking, the Special Adviser on Stakeholders to Governor Sani, Dr. Abdul Ishaq, highlighted the importance of the Kaduna Must Be Clean and Safe for the Betterment of the Citizens” initiative by a local NGO.
Ishaq reiterated that public health and environmental cleanliness are top priorities for the administration. He emphasized that the Christmas Garden project aligns with Governor Sani’s campaign promise to provide a clean and safe environment for all residents.
On his part, the Acting Sector Coordinator of the Kaduna State Vigilance Service (KADVIS) in Chikun, Ahijo Peter, noted that the conversion of the dump site into a vibrant garden has significantly reduced crime in the area.
“This spot used to be a hideout for miscreants. Now, with constant security presence, it has become a safe and welcoming place for everyone,” Peter stated.
The Christmas Garden project has become a symbol of Governor Uba Sani’s dedication to improving the lives of all Kaduna residents, as business owners, families, and visitors continue to celebrate the transformation.
