Brazil, Abu Dhabi discuss investment climate cooperation at BRICS summit

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva of Brazil met with Sheikh Khaled bin Mohammed bin Zayed al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi last Friday, on the sidelines of the BRICS Leaders’ Summit to strengthen bilateral ties and explore cooperation opportunities.
President Lula emphasized Brazil’s intent to attract foreign direct investment, highlighting sectors such as renewable energy, mining, petrochemicals, satellite communications, submarine cables, and manufacturing.
He also stressed expanding financial cooperation and advancing the MERCOSUR-UAE Trade Agreement, aiming for its completion by year-end.
The leaders discussed collaboration in digital technologies, including artificial intelligence and computational language models, and reaffirmed their support for multilateralism and a multipolar world order.
Addressing global challenges, they exchanged views on peace prospects in the Middle East and acknowledged the urgency of reducing greenhouse gas emissions amid the climate crisis.
The Crown Prince expressed UAE’s backing for the upcoming COP30 climate conference in Belém, Pará.
Brazil shared plans for the Tropical Forests Forever Fund (TFFF), to be launched at COP30, designed to compensate ecosystem services of vital biomes.
The UAE, part of the Climate COPs Troika, showed interest in supporting this initiative.
