Bauchi Local Government Area of Bauchi State has been allocated 20,000 units of assorted food items as COVID-19 palliative.
While flagging off the distribution of the last phase of the COVID-19 palliative to Bauchi Local Government on Tuesday, Governor Bala Mohammed said the move was aimed at cushioning the effect of the pandemic on the poor and vulnerable groups.
He said that the COVID-19 palliative committee has coined a sharing formula, tagged: ‘the food basket’, in which each benefitting household is entitled to one basket. He said each of the basket contains 10kg of rice, 10 kg of maize floor, 10kg of Millet, 5kg of beans, 2kg of sugar, 3 pieces of spaghetti, 100 cubes of maggi, 1kg of salt and 2 litres of vegetable oil or palm oil.
Bala who recalled that his administration constituted COVID-19 palliative committee in April this year, noted that the committee has so far distributed a total of 110,000 food baskets across 20 local government areas of the state.
“We are now in the last phase of the assignment, which is Bauchi Local Government with the allocation of 20,000 food baskets,” the governor said.
Bala commended members of the COVID-19 palliative distribution committee in the state for discharging their duties with fear of Allah.
The governor while speaking at the premises of the Multipurpose Indoor Sports Hall, Bauchi, noted that all palliative materials so far distributed have reached the targeted beneficiaries.
He expressed delight that no grain or any component of the commodities was diverted by any person or group of persons.
“The ceremony we are witnessing today which is the final distribution of Palliative materials in Bauchi Local Government Area is a very significant milestone in government’s modest effort in bringing succour to citizens who are victims of this clear and present day danger called COVID-19,” the governor said.
According to him, the state got tremendous assistance by way of donations from well meaning members of the public, corporate organisations, government agencies, local and international donors, amongst others.
