Austria govt made commitment to assist struggling energy providers

As the largest regional energy supplier in the country, Wien Energie, is now experiencing financial difficulties, the Austrian government made a commitment on Monday to provide assistance to the utility that serves more than two million consumers.
According to Leonore Gewessler, the federal minister for climate change, environment, energy, mobility, innovation, and technology, the energy supplier company is experiencing financial difficulties as a direct result of the current crisis involving electricity and gas.
According to Gewessler, the necessary assistance has been promised.
Wiener Stadtwerke, which provides utility services to the city of Vienna, is the parent company of Wien Energie.
According to allegations in the media, the energy company Wien Energie is reportedly dealing with a liquidity crisis because in the coming days it must deposit around 1.7 billion euros (1.7 billion USD) as security for energy transactions.
The business organisation refuted claims made by the media that it was insolvent by posting the following message on its Twitter account on Sunday evening: “No, Wien Energie is not insolvent/bankrupt.”
It was said that Wien Energie and Wiener Stadtwerke are fiscally sound enterprises with high credit ratings, but it also pointed out that comparable challenges are experienced by energy suppliers in Germany, which is located only across the border from Austria.
