ASR Africa, Nigeria Customs Commission 60-Bed Reference Hospital in Bauchi
The Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa), in partnership with the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), has commissioned the Abdul Samad Rabiu Nigeria Customs Service Hospital in Yelwa Tudu, Bauchi State.
Originally donated as a 30-bed healthcare facility by ASR Africa, the hospital has now been upgraded to a 60-bed reference hospital under ASR Africa’s Security Sector Support Grant (SSSG) Scheme in collaboration with the NCS.
The project reflects ASR Africa’s continued commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure within Nigeria’s security formations and their host communities.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Assistant Comptroller General of NCS, Bauchi Zone ‘D’ Command, ACG CG Ogbonna, described the commissioning as a landmark achievement for the Service.
He noted that the project underscores the NCS’s dedication to the welfare of its officers and the surrounding community.
The Zonal Medical Director and Deputy Comptroller of Customs for the Zone, Dr. Rimi Garba, highlighted that the upgraded facility houses seven clinical departments: obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, surgery, internal medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, and medical laboratory services.
Each department, he said, is fully equipped to deliver high-quality medical care.
In his remarks, ASR Africa’s Managing Director and CEO, Dr. Ubon Udoh, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to sustainable, impact-driven interventions across health, education, and social development.
He explained that the partnership with the Nigeria Customs Service aligns with the vision of ASR Africa’s Chairman, Abdul Samad Rabiu, who believes that meaningful development depends on a safe and secure environment.
Dr. Udoh added that the hospital will serve not only Customs personnel but also members of the host community and other security agencies in the state.

He further assured stakeholders that ASR Africa will continue to engage with the NCS beyond the commissioning to ensure accountability, proper maintenance, and long-term impact.
The Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi (BA Adeniyi, MFR), expressed appreciation to ASR Africa and its founder for what he described as the largest single donation ever received by the Service from an organization .
He pledged that under his leadership, the NCS will ensure the facility is properly maintained to meet the needs of its personnel and the wider community.
Delivering a goodwill message on behalf of the host community, Hon. Tanko Dutse commended Abdul Samad Rabiu for his philanthropic gesture, noting that the hospital will significantly improve access to affordable and quality healthcare in the area.
He also thanked the Comptroller-General for his commitment to delivering projects with lasting community impact.
The commissioning of the Abdul Samad Rabiu Nigeria Customs Service Reference Hospital further expands ASR Africa’s footprint in healthcare delivery nationwide.
Through collaboration with public institutions, the initiative continues to address critical service gaps, with the new facility expected to enhance access to essential healthcare services in Bauchi State and ease pressure on existing public hospitals in the region.
