The Nigerian Army has pledged stronger collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to enhance disaster preparedness, emergency response and humanitarian assistance as flooding threatens 33 states across Nigeria.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, gave the assurance during a courtesy visit by the Director-General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, on Friday, in Abuja.
Shaibu said the Army remained committed to supporting NEMA’s disaster management efforts through coordinated operations, logistics and humanitarian interventions to reduce the impact of emergencies on affected communities.
He stressed the importance of stronger inter-agency collaboration in responding to disasters, particularly as the country braces for widespread flooding during the rainy season.
Umar commended the Army for its continued support in disaster response operations nationwide and called for deeper collaboration to improve emergency preparedness, rapid response and relief delivery.
She said the partnership would strengthen the country’s capacity to respond effectively to disasters and safeguard lives and livelihoods.
