Morocco seeks to develop, modernize agric sectors

Morocco is endeavouring to develop and modernize agricultural sectors. To this end, 19 new generation program contracts, covering 10 years, were concluded between the State and the profession, on the sidelines of the International Agricultural Show in Morocco (SIAM) held in Meknes.

The contracts are worth 110.698 billion dirhams to which the State will contribute 42.477 billion dirhams in the framework of the Agricultural Development Fund (FDA).

The program contracts, signed with the main sectors of plant and animal production, are based on three principles, namely the implementation of the different axes of the “Green Morocco Plan” strategy, especially regarding the human element, the conditioning of the granting of aid to professional organizations to the achievement of the objectives contracted and the commitment of professionals to restructure their organizations to improve their governance and the level of national and regional representativeness.

These program contracts have been drawn up in consultation with the inter professional federations concerned to set the objectives and development indicators for each sector by 2030, namely the dairy sector, the red meat sector, the poultry sector, and the beekeeping sector. The contracts also cover 15 plant sectors, namely olive growing, arboriculture, citrus fruit, date palm, cereals and legumes, sugar crops, oilseeds, market gardening, argan trees, seeds, organic farming, red fruits, saffron, rice, and perfume-destined roses.

The implementation of the commitments of these program contracts aims to improve the profitability of agricultural production, enhance production, and modernize marketing and distribution methods.

They also aim to improve research, training and working conditions for farmers and workers, in addition to extending support for the organization and structuring of professional organizations to create a new generation of effective professional agricultural organizations.

Engaging Moroccan agriculture in a new strategic phase of development seeks to consolidate the results of the “Green Morocco Plan” strategy, which has boosted the various agricultural sectors thanks to the support of the State and the strengthening of partnership with professionals.

The 2023 SIAM edition, held May 2 through 7, brought together 15 countries and nearly 1,400 exhibitors.
