Firm, alumni plan 200 million trees to fight climate change crisis

As society faces more intense climate change, Green Sahara Farms in partnership with Unity Schools Old Students Association has resolved to plant 200 million trees across the six geopolitical zones across the country before 2030.

This was revealed on Monday in Abuja at the inauguration of the Sterling One Foundation Agroforestry for Climate Action Project at the Federal Government Girls College, Bwari, Abuja.

The Young Agroforestry Club in the school, President General of USOSA, Mike Magaji, said there was a need to inculcate the culture of environmental participation in children.

Magaji said doing this would make the children grow up to learn and appreciate the values of keeping the environment safe and clean, thereby protecting the country and environment, adding that one of the ways of doing it is tree planting.

He said, “So, this is very significant and we must recognise the importance of the environment and also try to preserve it and we must inculcate the culture of environmental preservation in children. This is for them to grow up to learn and appreciate those values of keeping the environment safe and clean.”

Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officer, Sterling One Foundation, Olapeju Ibekwe, encouraged the students to nurture the trees planted to fight and reduce the effects of climate change.
