The Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project has donated 11 Land Cruiser vehicles to the National Park Service (NPS) to enhance wildlife conservation efforts at its newly established parks.
Conservator-General of the NPS, Ibrahim Goni, made the announcement during the pull-out ceremony of retired Assistant Conservator-General Gabriel Agba, held in Abuja.
Goni stated that the vehicles will support the launch of operations in the new parks, improving mobility and field capacity.
He also disclosed that ACReSAL has constructed five new barracks and six new national parks, while also renovating four existing ones to improve infrastructure and operational effectiveness.
In addition to infrastructure, ACReSAL has provided ICT equipment and conducted training for NPS personnel in areas including climate change mitigation, agroforestry, and digital tools.
Goni noted that the NPS is one of 15 armed-bearing organisations in Nigeria and continues to seek greater visibility during national events like Independence Day celebrations.
He praised Mr Agba for his dedication and wide-ranging expertise, describing him as a valuable asset to the park system who would be greatly missed.
In his response, Agba expressed gratitude to God and his colleagues for their support throughout his career, and reaffirmed his pride in serving in an agency dedicated to protecting nature.
